Today Melissa Alfano, the WIC director for Athens and Perry counties, came to talk to use about the WIC program, what it offers and who it there to help. WIC stands for women, infants, and children and is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, women with infants, and children under the age of 5. In order to qualify for WIC families must fall below 185% of the US poverty guidelines, be able to provide proof of residency in that state, and be considered at nutritional risk. The WIC program is 100% federally funded and unlike food stamps only allows families to receive specific foods. She also talked about how the program embraces breastfeeding versus formula and that it provides educational resources on the matter. This topic then transitioned into a very interesting story from Dr. Holben about his mother.

We then watched a "webinar" about diet & physical activity and how it affects cancer. It could have been an interesting topic, however, it was hard to hear and the speaker seemed to drone on so it was rather hard to pay attention.
